Methi Kootu / Fenugreek Kootu
Ingredients
- Green gram dal – ½ cup
- Fenugreek leaves – 2 bunches
- Peeled garlic – 5 flakes
- Finely cut onion – ½ cup
- Milk – ½ cup
- Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
- Salt – as required
Grind together
- Grated fresh coconut -¼ cup
- Poppy seeds -1 ½ teaspoon
- De-husked melon seeds -1 tablespoon or Cashew nuts – 6
For seasoning
- Oil / ghee – 2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds -½ teaspoon
- Presevered dried green chillies – 4
Cooking Method
- Heat oil / ghee in ‘Anantha CNB’ pressure cooker
- Add cumin seeds, broken dried chillies, garlic and fry
- Add onions and washed fenugreek leaves
- Fry for few minutes and then add water. Add washed dal and turmeric powder
- Close lid and pressure cook in medium flame for one whistle
- After opening the lid, add salt, ground paste, milk and let the mix boil for few minutes
- Serve with cooked rice
